About NordicExpat
NordicExpat exists because the practical information expats need in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Belgium is scattered across dozens of official government sites — much of it in Danish, Swedish or French — while the English-language resources online are often out of date, vague, or missing the specifics that actually matter when you are standing at a counter with the wrong form.
So we set out to build the reference we wished existed: one place that walks through each process as it actually works — which office you go to, which documents you need, what the fees and deadlines are, and where it commonly goes wrong.
Who writes NordicExpat
The guides are researched, written and maintained by Bikram Nath, the editor of NordicExpat. He is an Indian national who lives in Copenhagen and has had a Danish CPR number since 2024, so he has been through Danish registration himself. Most guides link to the official sources they are built from: national tax authorities, immigration offices, healthcare portals and municipal websites. We are not a government service and not affiliated with any authority; where a rule depends on your exact situation, we point you to the official source so you can confirm it for yourself.
How we keep guides accurate
Nordic and Belgian regulations change: tax thresholds are re-indexed each year, fees are updated, and processing times shift. Each guide shows the date it was last verified, and a later edit date when it has changed since. If you spot something out of date, email us and we will correct it.
Affiliate disclosure
Some links on NordicExpat are affiliate links. These include money transfers (Wise), travel insurance (SafetyWing), travel bookings through the Travelpayouts network, moving quotes (Sirelo / Experts in Moving), and rentals booked through HousingAnywhere.
